Will abstracts be replaced with tag clouds?

One of our PhD students posted an interesting blog entry suggesting that in future abstracts may look more like tag clouds.

Her PhD proposal expressed as using wordle:

    I wish Worldle linked to the content as in a proper tag cloud as opposed to just being eye-candy.

    I’m tempted to put a wordle on my MA dissertation, next to the abstract. Looks nice – but I agree with Alan, be nice to click through and it be a real tag cloud!

    Where keywords and sentences blend into one… interesting idea.

    The idea works for me, I seldom read abstracts in full – scanning for keywords in them (and literal KW at the bottom). Might even speed up paper writing/dissemination for authors and search-engine retrieval precsion!
